Glazing technique or a glaze of oil paintings is a method of using layers of color (oil paint) on top of another color once the beneath color is dry. Generally, a thin and transparent color is used over another already dried color to bring about a third color.
The thumb rule to master this technique is to know the applicability of transparent, semitransparent, semi-opaque and opaque paints. Understanding the luminosity and opacity of each kind of paint is important to achieve the desired end results.
The glazing technique is widely used in oil paintings to bring out the liveliness of the painting. It creates a life by bringing about the exact image of what we see through our eyes.
